Afternoon Tour & Picnic
Tri-State last visited this beautiful hosta garden in the summer of 2014 so we are interested to see what changes have been made. Situated on the western slope of a hill, intersected by a driveway, the driveway offers views upslope of mostly mature hostas, while looking down slope one views plantings with younger growth. Bert’s overriding theme is to plant his 1,200+ ”favorite” hosta varieties randomly spaced according to their expected size, interspersed with Japanese maples, epimediums, hellebores, heuchera, Solomon shields and other companion plants. The original garden, in the back of the house, is now fifteen years old and contains such classics as ‘Sagae’, ‘Blue Angel’, ‘Krossa Regal’, ‘Thunderbolt’ and ‘Great Expectations’. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and take advantage of the steppingstone path behind this garden to fully appreciate the plants from below. There is also a walking trail which completely surrounds the entire garden. Enjoy!
***Since this is our annual picnic, please bring a side dish or a dessert to share. Meats, condiments, beverages and paper goods will be provided. Also, bring a chair and a plant or two for the auction that will take place in this garden.
