It has been eight years since we last visited the home and nursery of Dawn and Mike Koller and we are looking forward to seeing the changes they have made. When the Kollers moved to Medford in 1990 there was little in the way of landscaping. The backyard was mostly shady so they planted some hosta and they did so well that they began scouring local nurseries for different varieties. It wasn’t long before their backyard hosta “hobby” turned into a business of their own, Mike and Dawn Koller’s Home of Hosta. Approximately four hundred varieties are showcased in a half-acre of garden beds, complemented with colorful foliage. A main attraction of their property is the newly added koi pond situated in the center of the garden. The Kollers prove the versatility of hostas by incorporating them everywhere in their yard, among other perennials and annuals. There is plenty of room to sit, enjoy the landscape, and just relax among the greenery.
As we have done in the past, the paper goods, beverages, meats, rolls and condiments will be provided by Tri-State. We are counting on our generous members to provide the rest!
Though the Kollers operate their own backyard nursery any member who wishes to sell plants in tailgate fashion that day may do so, contributing 10% of their sales to the Tri-State treasury.
So bring a chair and a salad, side dish, or dessert and join us at Long Island’s Home of Hosta.
