Fall Meeting Program

October 26, 2002

We are privileged once again to have the famous (or is that infamous) Tony Avent of Plant Delights Nursery in Raleigh, NC as our guest speaker at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum on Saturday, October 26, 2002. For his "topic" Tony has chosen to introduce us to the perils and pleasures of being a plant explorer. Some of us have seen Tony's slides on his trip to China, replete with photos of gorgeous scenery, new and unusual plants, and interesting dining experiences.

For those of you who have never had the opportunity to hear Tony speak you are in for a treat. Citing himself on his website, www.plantdelights.com, as "nursery owner", "international plant explorer", "hosta hybridizer", "freelance garden writer", and "lecturer", Tony takes the gift of gab to new heights. With hosta introductions like H. 'Abba Dabba Do', 'Bubba', 'Outhouse Delight', 'Red Neck Heaven' and 'Elephant Burgers' (because the leaves look an elephant stepped on them), you can tell that humor is his middle name.

So come at noon with your lunch and a dessert to share. The Tony Avent humor express leaves at 1:00 pm.
