Octobe 2007 Meeting

Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 12:00 p.m.

Frelinghuysen Arboretum - Morristown, NJ

We are honored to welcome Mike Shadrack, noted British Horticulture Speaker & Photographer, as a guest speaker at our fall meeting.

Mike has been a member of the British Hosta & Hemerocallis Society for sixteen years and is former Chairman and currently their Assistant Bulletin Editor. He joined the American Hosta Society in 1992 and is a regular at conventions and other hosta gatherings in the US. He has been growing hostas since 1986 and has been trying to hybridize almost as long. According to Mike, he came to hostas through his other hobby, fish-keeping, when the beauty of hostas reflected in the garden pond was drawn to his attention in a TV gardening program. He now admits that he has many more hostas than fish! (This “reflection” will give you a preview of Mike’s sense of humor.)

Over the years, Mike has collected over 4000 slides that provide a rich backdrop for his lectures. Those of you who have had the pleasure of hearing Mike before will agree that he is an engaging and amusing speaker. This time Mike will focus on the use (and non-use) of hostas in England and he promises to lead us on a “light-hearted romp through English gardens” in the process.

Please remember to bring your lunch and A DESSERT TO SHARE at noon. Speaker begins about 1:00 pm.
